Lauren Grassi is the genius designer behind French Made, a UK-based company specializing in beautiful table service and bespoke wedding favors. Lauren’s usual style fuses shabby chic/vintage style with her French heritage to create delicate, elegant and delicious table settings – cakes, sweets, decorations and favors. So when she contacted me to ask if I’d be interested in collaborating on a line of alternative wedding favors, I said YES YES YES.
I gave Lauren the brief: 5 boxes of favors, one for each of my five favorite subcultures: Gothic, Steampunk, Medieval, Rockabilly and, of course, Heavy Metal. Lauren took these themes and created 5 different custom favour boxes, complete with handmade tags, charms, and goodies galore stuffed inside.

What made you first choose to start designing wedding favors?
Favours are very traditional in France. You can’t really get away with not giving one of them to your guests. I have always seen them around at all celebrations, especially weddings and christenings. I started making favours as well as table decoration for friends and family a while ago as I love the way you can adapt to the different styles and themes. Also, giving favors is a nice gesture for your guests to remember your day and thank them for coming (and their gifts).
What attracts you to the dark/alternative culture?
I was 14 when I saw The Cure live. It completely changed my life and made me the person I am now. Always on the look at for what’s trendy in a quirky way.

Who are your ideal clients?
People who want something different and bespoke.
Tell us a little about the favours you create – what do you have available, how would a bride go about ordering favors, and what kind of customization options to do offer?
These are some examples of favours I have created: Favours in boxes, mini jars, little tubes, paper bags – but I’m open to suggestions and ideas. Favours can be ordered by contacting us via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
We can fill them with sweets such as mints, jelly beans, mini marshmallows etc … and we design bespoke tags with names, date of the event, and messages. We adapt ribbons, colours and charms to the theme.

Where do you get your inspiration?
walking around London, going to gigs, watching videos, internet research.
What made you decide to step “outside the box” of standard wedding industry-style favors?
When it comes to fashion, music and consequently some part of my lifestyle I don’t really do anything else than ‘outside the box’. Not always easy btw lol.

What would be the one piece of advice you could give to a bride planning her wedding favors/ her wedding day?
Be crazy and be yourself. I’m saying that also, as I got married ‘normal’ style just to please my parents and family and I regret it BIG TIME now
