Many people email me to ask where I got my red gothic wedding dress from. I looked everywhere – in bridal shops all over New Zealand, and online in hundreds of bridal stores and gothic clothing designers – to no avail. But a chance browsing of an Australian website led me to Lara Ravasini and Gothic Weddings – an Australia-based wedding dress shop specializing in gothic, medieval and fantasy gowns for weddings and special occasions.
I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Gothic weddings – my dress arrived in plenty of time, fit perfectly, looked amazing and even came with a gorgeous little skully garter. My circlet came from Gothic Weddings as well.
Lara and the team at Gothic Weddings have a dress to suit every kind of gothic bride – from medieval styles to dramatic trains to Victorian bustles and modern glamour. And the best part is that you can order every dress in a variety of colours – so if you like a particular style, but want a deep red or lavish purple instead of white or cream, you can have it! And they can help with all your other gothic attire, from suitably dark and gothic bridesmaids dresses, to adorable gothic flower girl dresses, to veils, fascinators and circlets and the vitally-important black petticoat.
As an online store, Gothic Weddings does not have the ability to try styles on – they don’t have a retail location or a showroom. However, Lara’s team have an extensive knowledge of dress styles and body shapes – you can email them to get advice on what style and colours will work at your wedding. They can even send you out colour samples so you can choose the color that best suits your skin.
“Buying a dress online isn’t for everyone, but we’re determined to give you the best experience at Gothic Weddings. We will not willingly send you a gown with manufacturing faults – each gown is strictly checked and photos taken before it leaves our premises. If you can’t afford to pay for your dress all at once, we have a payment plan. And we can even make a custom gown based on your pictures and designs.”
The Gothic Weddings website features an extensive FAQ page, a customer gallery (you can see my pictures right at the top), and a frequently-updated Specials page.
Lara recommends ordering your gothic wedding dress at least 4 months in advance, as you need to allow for an order processing time of 12 weeks (14 weeks if you want custom fitting or details). She also recommends having a professional seamstress take your measurements before orderings – don’t take your measurements yourself, because moving your body about alters the measurements, especially in your legs. She says if in doubt, order the larger size, because it’s easier to take it to a seamstress to get taken in/up than to add fabric back on.
So if you’re on the hunt for a gothic wedding dress, or even a gothic ball dress or evening gown, check out Gothic Weddings for an affordable array of dark and decadent delights.
